Born at Trenton Memorial Hospital, raised on a local family farm, and serving our community for over 50 years—Mike Cowan has the deep roots and proven experience to guide Trenton through today’s challenges. 

My Priorities for Trenton Ward

Protecting TMH, Doctor Recruitment & Retention

With the massive global and provincial stresses facing healthcare today, Trenton Memorial Hospital remains our most important resource for continued growth. It is a key component that families and businesses look at when deciding whether to invest in Quinte West—and those investments are what bring sustainable local jobs.


  • Right now, every community across Ontario is competing for the exact same doctors and provincial funding. We cannot rely on old methods. We have to continually think outside the box to attract medical professionals who want to build a life here and be part of our community.
  • In 2015, coordinated with a dedicated group of citizens to co-found Our TMH. We successfully united the community to combat the threatened closure of our hospital and halted the provincial relocation of $2.5 million in vital medical equipment to Belleville. As your councillor, I will bring that same fierce advocacy to City Hall.

Combating Rising Global Pressures Locally

From inflation to the rising cost of living, external pressures are causing major stress for individuals and families in Trenton, with costs rising faster than household wages. While we cannot control global markets, we can control how our municipality responds. I am committed to smart, practical, and efficient local governance that protects taxpayers and prioritizes everyday problem-solving.

Championing Quinte West’s Unique Identity

Quinte West is unique because of how our four separate municipalities came together. We are incredibly fortunate to live in an area that has so much to offer, and we must champion all of it:


  • CFB Trenton: Supporting one of Canada’s largest Air Force bases and its massive economic and cultural impact on our region.
  • Our Agricultural Heritage: Protecting and advocating for the proud farming communities of Murray and Sidney wards.
  • Local Business & Industry: Supporting the large and small businesses that maintain a steady foundation of employment and growth.

About Mike Cowan

Deep Roots. Fifty Years of Local Dedication.

Mike Cowan’s story is woven into the fabric of this community. Born at Trenton Memorial Hospital on August 30, 1954, Mike was raised by his parents, Michael and Ann Cowan, on a 100-acre family farm just west of Wooler on the Old Wooler Road.


Growing up in the region, he attended elementary school at St. Mary’s in Campbellford and graduated from high school at E.N.S.S. in Brighton. In May 1976, Mike launched his real estate career, beginning a 50-year journey of helping local residents find homes, solve property challenges, and navigate the shifting landscape of the Quinte area.


In 1978, Mike married Sally McCabe. Together, they raised their three children—Morgan, Victoria, and Joe—and immersed themselves in the community, actively volunteering in local soccer leagues, Girl Guides, and hometown service clubs.

A Proven Track Record of Leadership

Mike doesn’t just talk about community success; he has spent decades actively building it:


  • Municipal Education: Served two consecutive terms as a local School Board Trustee (2000–2003 and 2003–2006).
  • Business Advocacy: Served multiple terms as President of the Quinte West Chamber of Commerce (2003–2004 and 2012–2013),and is an Honorary Lifetime Member.
  • Community & Service Clubs: A dedicated 40-year member of the Knights of Columbus, a 15-year member of the Rotary Club, and a 20-year member of the 413 Wing Royal Canadian Air Force Association (RCAFA).
  • Professional Expertise: Holds a Realtor Broker’s License with Royal LePage and carries a specialized Market Value Appraiser (MVA) designation.
